The Dangers of Malicious Email Attachment

Introduction
One click is all it takes to open the door to hackers. Malicious email attachments disguise themselves as innocent files like an invoice, a job offer, or a delivery update. But behind them lurk viruses, ransomware, and data thieves. These threats can steal your personal information, cripple your business, or even hold your data hostage. The worst part? They often come from emails that look completely legitimate.
Handling Email Attachments
- Security User Awareness Training: Conduct regular training sessions to educate employees on identifying/managing suspicious emails and attachments. Incorporate phishing simulations to test awareness.
- Software Updates: Install patches promptly to close vulnerabilities; enable automatic updates.
- Antivirus Protection: Use reputable antivirus software to detect ransomware, spyware, and advanced malware. Update definitions regularly.
- Email Protocols: Implement DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) to protect domains from spoofing/phishing. Enforce policies like quarantining unauthenticated messages in DNS records.
- Real-Time Monitoring: Leverage email security tools to detect/respond to threats swiftly.
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Enhance email security with MFA to prevent unauthorized access even if credentials are compromised.
- Partnership Note: Leverage our partnership with TrendMicro for email security and our Phishing Security User Assessment and Training (PSUAT). Contact sdr@cecureintel.com for details.
