Overview

Cecure Intelligence Limited (CIL) successfully modernized Atreos Group's operations, transitioning their Point of Sale (POS) application infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This move enhanced efficiency, reliability, and scalability across Atreos’ 54 retail outlets.

The Challenge

Atreos Group, a leading retail company, sought to modernize its operations to accommodate its expanding business. Their existing on-premises infrastructure struggled with scalability, reliability, and accessibility, limiting their ability to efficiently manage retail operations. They were also looking for a solution that would reduce their current on-premises costs.

The Solution

To address these challenges, CIL migrated Atreos Group's POS application infrastructure to AWS. This transition leveraged the scalability and reliability of cloud computing, while also reducing operational costs associated with maintaining on-premises hardware

Conducting an AWS Well-Architected Framework Review and utilizing Trend Micro's ISV Cloud One Conformity platform was crucial for Atreos Group's AWS migration. The Well-Architected Framework ensured optimized performance, scalability, and adherence to best practices, while Cloud One Conformity provided continuous compliance monitoring and automated assessments for standards like GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI-DSS. This combination mitigated risks, streamlined operations, and ensured a reliable, compliant IT infrastructure.

We used Amazon Cloudtrail to capture all API activity within the account and delivered log files to a centralized S3 bucket, ensuring traceability and accountability, AWS GuardDuty to monitor the account and workloads for security threats, providing real-time insights to mitigate potential risks. IAM Access Analyzer is employed to provide recommendations for securing resource and user access, enforcing least privilege access controls.

Instance rightsizing, terminating idle resources, and leveraging cost-effective pricing models, identifying potential savings of over $200 per month for EBS volumes attached to stopped EC2 instances.

AWS Budgets is used to help Atreos to track expenses, set spending limits, and receive alerts when thresholds were reached, facilitating effective financial planning and control.

We deployed the AWS CloudWatch unified agent using a script to collect both logs and metrics from the servers running the workload. The script ensured that system and application logs were published to CloudWatch Logs. It also gathered metrics related to CPU, memory, disk, networking, and other process resource usage, which were used to create dashboards for easy monitoring and analysis. Additionally, alarms were set up based on error logs from the application, allowing for timely alerts and responses to potential issues.

AWS Systems Manager is used to automate operational tasks such as patch management and resource discovery, ensuring consistent management across AWS resources and on-premises systems.

AWS Cloudformation is used for infrastructure as code (IaC) to deploy resources efficiently, ensuring quick and reliable infrastructure provisioning.

AWS Config is activated Continuously record resource configurations, enabling compliance and governance by evaluating configurations against desired settings.

AWS Security Hub provides a comprehensive view of the security posture across AWS accounts, enabling Atreos to quickly identify and address security issues.

The migration to AWS resulted in a significantly more efficient and reliable IT infrastructure for Atreos Group. The enhanced scalability and reliability allowed Atreos to better support its retail operations across 54 outlets, ultimately improving customer experiences and driving business growth. Additionally, the move led to reduced operational costs and increased efficiency in managing IT infrastructure.
